Description

Tour Highlights

Spend approximately 30 minutes at the following memorials:

Jefferson Memorial
Learn the tale of its designing and construction process: How did the original architect die? Why did people chain themselves to the Japanese Cherry trees? Why was it that the statue of Jefferson was not brought in until four years after the Memorial was dedicated?

Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial was built to resemble a Greek temple. It has 36 Doric columns, one for each state at the time of Lincoln's death. A sculpture by Daniel Chester French of a seated Lincoln is in the center of the memorial chamber.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
This is a memorial not only to FDR, but also to the era he represents. The memorial traces twelve years of American History through a sequence of four outdoor rooms - each one devoted to one of FDR's terms of office.

Spend another 30 minutes approximately at the following memorials:

Vietnam Memorial
The memorial consists of three distinct sections: "the wall," the three service men statue and flagpole and the women in service to the Vietnam war statue. The purpose of this memorial is to separate the issue of the sacrifices of the veterans from the U.S. policy in the war, thereby creating a venue for reconciliation.

Korean Memorial
From 1950 to 1953, the US joined with United Nations forces in Korea to take a stand against what was deemed a threat to democratic nations worldwide. At war's end, American veterans returned to a peacetime world of families, homes, and jobs - and to a country long reluctant to view the Korean War as something to memorialize. But to the men and women who served, the Korean War could never be a forgotten war.

Drive past the following sites on your tour:
The US Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, House and Senate Office Buildings, Federal Triangle, Pennsylvania Avenue, The White House, Capitol Reflecting Pool, Georgetown and Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima).

Terrific, would have liked to have has a snack available for purchase, such as a drink and sandwich, though, because you don't want to spend anytime standing in a line to get food.

We required a wheelchair-accessible bus. Even though we needed to reschedule our tour by one night the company accommodated us. The driver was friendly and informative. The bus trip was the most accessible thing we experienced in Washington DC.

I have gone on this tour twice in the last 2 years. Each trip was a little different, which made the second time just as enjoyable as the first time.
